A mobile app dedicated to helping you find the best public spaces to work from.

Design Sprint | Case Study | by Massiel Lopez

PostUp is a new start up company that wants to make it easier for freelancers and remote workers to find great coffee shops and public spaces to work from.

What is Post Up?

Freelancers and remote workers are spending too much time trying to find a work space that is suitable for their specific needs, therefore spending less time actually getting their jobs done.

The Problem

“The search is a job in itself”

  • Create a space in which remote workers and freelancers can review and share advice on locations they have already worked in and contribute to the community.

Goals of the project

  • Reduce the time it takes the users to find a suitable workspace.

Discover

  • More time trying to find a place to work from, than actual time working

  • Google and Yelp focus more on reviews of the food, and service.

  • Yelp or Google maps don’t always show pictures of the physical space.

Through research and interviews, I was able to identify 3 main issues that affect remote workers when it comes to finding work spaces.

Findings

Google maps:

  • Ability to download offline maps

  • Busy times throughout the day

  • Ratings and reviews from users

Competitor analysis

Yelp:

  • Search filters not geared toward remote workers’ needs.

  • Direct connection to local business

  • NO monthly fee

OPPORTUNITIES

A little confusing when it came to saving a location to “My List” , How do I know if it saved?

Working on the PostUp project has been a really fun experience, and as my first project of this nature it has been a really enjoyable journey as a UI/UX designer.

The design sprint approach was like a creative pressure cooker, forcing me to turn ideas into actionable solutions in just a few days. The intensity of the process was invigorating, and it proved to be an efficient way to tackle the complex challenges. It allowed me to cut through the noise, focus on the most critical aspects, and make significant progress.

As a remote worker myself, I see the practicality and value that this mobile app offers firsthand. This app is something I would genuinely use in my daily life, making my search for public work spaces more enjoyable, and efficient.
